Moments Defining Independence Day…….

14 08 2007

First of all……A very Happy Independence Day. Its the 60th year of Indian Independence Celebration day. I just wanted to scribble here some of the defining moments mainly that happens on Independence Day. These defining moments are not those that are getting campaigned by CNN-IBC news Channel. :)

When we were in schools, we use to get things ready for celebration before 2-3 days of Independence Day .Having white ribbons ready for both the wrists, getting washed the white canvas shoes, asking mom to wash our white clothes to make it white. Names of those students are listed before itself, who are going to give speech on the intended occasion. This will always be a real fun… students will be in full josh giving their names for speech, but what to do after that??? Ask our elders to prepare some speech content either on Subhash Chandra Bose, Mahatma Gandhi or any famous freedom fighters. Then start gutting it all the time, whole the day. Querying the teacher whether we can carry the chit and read it there?? or we have to deliver the speech instantly?? The preparation phase of the speech makes any other activities at home completely joyless. :)

Its the Day – August 15th, teachers had informed on the previous day itself, what time we have to assemble!! In what attire we should be!! and so on… got ready early in the morning, wore the white dress, tied the wrist bands, had a small badge of tri-color on the chest, white canvas shoes and ran towards the school. Most of the people already arrived at the premises, some teachers aligned the students in the ascending order of their heights, school storekeeper made some adjustments for the flag to be hoisted and some girls gave their final touches for those beautiful rangolis around the flag pole.
Some honorable guest was invited to perform the flag hoisting, teachers “shhhhhhhh” sounds started flying all around us standing in the lines. Once the guest did the flag hoisting, the musical band started and everybody together sung the national anthem, saluted the tri – color flag that sprinkled the flowers that are tied inside it. Then as the turn to deliver the speech arrived , legs started shivering :( but somehow managed to get onto the dias, gave the speech and again back to your place as soon as possible. It was hard even to notice the applause of other students, because of the hurry of getting off the stage.
After everybody’s speech got over, teachers distributed the most awaited sweets, and they are distributed in a such a manner that after getting our part we have to straight away get out of the premises, no option of getting one more of that :( . Then visited the city stadium wherein police parade was held, enjoyed all the day out there, ate some snacks over there watching the wonderful parade.

Well., Indian Independence Day – August 15th. India got freedom at 12 am on August 15th 1947 after so much of struggle, fights, etc., by great people like Mahatma Gandhi, Subash Chandra Bose, Bhagath Singh, Raj Guru and so on but most of us Indians have considered this Independence Day as one more holiday added to the vacation list to freak out, go out, do party, enjoy, have some picnic or so.

Well frankly speaking I never knew much about the Legend Bhagath Singh and his companions Rajguru, Sukhdev until the bollywood film “The legend of Bhagath Singh” got released. That was an ultimate movie that showed the great dedications, painful struggles for freedom, unbelivable sacrifice for the nation done by so many true freedom fighters.

Everybody in this independent nation thinks that, we have to contribute some or the other thing to the country. Some have fought for the freedom, some have supported those people, some have written some very nice songs and poems and some have sung those beautiful songs hearing to which every true indian gets emotional. Last friday I was watching a program “TVS Sa Re Ga Ma Pa” in Z TV and the theme for that days episode was Independence Day. I really donno why all these patriotic songs are heart touching. That episode triggered me to right down some of my experiences w.r.t Independence Day. Now I have become a die – hard fan of A.R.Rahman hearing to his vande mataram, and Lata mangeshkar hearing to “Zara aakhon pe barlo paani”…. These songs you will feel like hearing continously innumerable times. I have tried to get the links of most of the songs. Just hear to it one or more times……and a small feeling for you to be good in the society can be your contribution to the country and……

Vande Mataram by A.R.Rahman

Song from film Border

Jana Gana Mana by A.R.Rahman

A Song from film Karma

A song from film Lakshya

Please try to attend any of the flag hoisting ceremonies that takes place near your stays and sing the national anthem whole heartedly (atleast once or twice in a year) and be PROUD TO BE AN INDIAN…… Jai Hind

This is my first blog and I need your valuable review on this to improve myself for the next one.
